A practicing landscape architect and scholar, Kathleen John-Alder has received professional awards from the Van Alan Institute, the National Park Service, and the American Society of Landscape Architects for work that explores the interplay of environmental perception, representation, and design. She holds a BA from Oberlin, a BS in environmental planning and landscape architecture from Rutgers, an MS in botany from Pennsylvania State University, and a Master of Environmental Design from Yale. Kathleen is also the author of Ian McHarg and the Search for Ideal Order. Her essays have appeared in Landscape Journal, JoLA, the Journal of Planning History, Site/Lines, and Manifest.
